Superstitions Homework

We talked about many superstitions in many countries, but do you think it is important to talk about them? Why?
Yes, I do. Because it is one of culture. If we know superstitions in foreign counties, it may be useful when we went abroad. If we do not know them, we might feel ashamed abroad and they might be rude for foreiners. We hardly talk about superstitions, but I think it is very interesting topic except that you believe in them or not believe in them.


Is communication affected by superstitions?
I think so that. When I look over foreign country, I often foods, customs, clothing languages and so on. I hardly look over superstitions. However, in the class, I could know there are many superstitions each countries. It is interesting to share each other's superstitons. In Japan, there are many unique superstitons that foreigners think it is strange. We hardly talk about superstitons, but I think it is very interesting and enjoynable topic.


Do you believe in Japanese superstitions? If so, what superstitions, what do they mean and why do you do,use, or believe in them?
I believe in some superstitions in Japnan, but I do not believe in most of them. I believe in superstitions about chopsticks. The way of using chopsticks is very important in Japan, so I believe that. My parents tought me that when I was a child. The one of them is that we do not pass something from chopsticks to chopsticks. It is very rude in Japan. Another one is that we do not lick chopsticks when we think what to pick up with chopsticks. I often see the sight, this is rude,too. In addition, we do not point chopsticks at foods when we pick up food. I do not know why we do not do these. However, the way to use chopsticks is important, so I believe in these.
